Fihankra Places accepts referrals for the
Supervised independent Living Services (SILS) from any appropriate
agency. Fihankra referrals must meet strict guidelines to ensure
the youth's safety and adaptability to program initiatives. Youth
referred to Fihankra Place must:
Be between the ages of 16-21
Demonstrate an interest and potential for learning
to live independently
Be capable of forming positive interpersonal relationships
Not use drugs or alcohol, (if prior history, must show
verification of completing treatment)
Not be emotionally disturbed, suicidal, mentally ill,
sex offenders, actively psychotic, or violent
Demonstrate an appropriate level of social and cognitive
functioning, (must be able to manage without constant supervision)
Read on at least an 8th grade level
How to refer a Client
Fihankra Place requires a referral packet from the referring agency
to be submitted for each potential member before a preliminary interview
can be scheduled. The referral packet can be mailed, faxed, or hand
delivered to our office. The referral
packet must include the following:
SILS Admission Application
A referral letter from the social working, placement
office briefly introducing the client and discussing his or her
current status
An up-to-date social history including a psychological
(within the last 6 months)
A comprehensive medical history including and up-to-date
immunization record
The symbol Fihankra was derived
from a symbolic language of Adinkra from the West African country
Ghana. Fihankra means...Safe place, Safe home or fenced home. Fihankra
is a symbol of security and safety.
